I see many replies here, which are not only critical to the idea of Sen but also have personal attacks on the relationship of Sen and Basu. In a country of 250 millions(US) and that too a limited number of intellectuals and that too Indians, it would not be suprising for people in the same profession to be acquaintances.(Prof Sen was thesis advisor of Prof Basu) I don't think it is an argument of objectivity from Basu and such allegations are baseless. I also believe a lot of the replies are knee-jerk reaction to the ideaa the book talk about. Any person who is a reader of history, economics and politics including me agree with Mr.Sen's observation. He has accomplished the task of assimilation and coherently unifying these varied ideas from India into a single book. I commend him to bring it in a form of a book for the world to take notice. It is no accident that Mark Twain reffered India to the birthplace of human thought, action.
